The Old Burying Ground is the original cemetary for Halifax, dating back to the mid-eighteenth century. The years had taken their toll, but a recent restoration has made this sacred space special again.

I could spend hours in a cemetery looking at the stones and imagining the lives of the people who are now beneath them. When living in Eastern Europe I used to make regular Sunday afternoon visits to graveyards where the families of the deceased would be busy digging gardens and placing personal items of the deceased in little glass boxes, glasses, photos, etc. How lovely. In North America graveyards are such lonely places
